Volusion ecommerce

August 22nd, 2015

I have been getting a lot of requests for online commerce. If you are familiar with eBay and need something similar – small scale and simple, use or I personally use – it allows me to manage everything in one site (like the wix or shopify) but creates code to insert the shopping cart pretty much anywhere, like you website and facebook page, and it all remains synced – but it does not provide in itself a storefront. For a more robust system, Volusion has been fantastic. The list of features is extensive, but it separates the kids above from the grown ups, you can customize pretty much anything. Volusion has a list of features page but it really barely scratched the surface; the Volusion blog may have more detailed yet less organized sets of features.

This is the Volusion quick start guide:

1- Buy a volusion plan – at least one with import/export ($65/month)

2- Buy a domain ($25/yr)

3- Buy a SSL certificate (secure shopping) required by credit card processing companies (Volusion SSL = $90 is pricey but easy)

4- Get an account with a merchant account – I use authorize – what they recommend. ($50 then $25/month)

5- Arrange the products in excel to import. Name, list price, affiliate prices, description, sku, photo, weight/size (for shipping), etc

6- Setup shipping account with fedex/ups/others, link to Volusion.

7- Design logo and other branding materials

8- Adopt a template and customize, then design custom homepage, signup page, email, newsletter, etc.

9- Once live and running: online marketing, affiliate marketing.

  • SEO
  • Social Media
  • Paid SEM/Ads

BAM! not really, in average takes about a month. Note you will need someone to become familiar (computer savvy) with Volusion and your website. I am available for design, implemetation, and consultation, but day to day business issues are not worth (to you) for me to cover and an hourly programming rate.

Large Format Printer EPSON Stylus Pro 9000 – $400 (Austin)

November 26th, 2008

EPSON Stylus Pro 9000 Large Format Printer

$400 – Pick-up
$500 – Delivered

The Epson Stylus Pro 9000 InkJet Printer is a reliable, efficient and Economical printer combining high quality and wide formats.

  • Resolutions up to 1440 x 720 dpi – photo quality posters.
  • 150 sheet input capacity, or rolls.
  • Accept various medium – paper, vinyl, fabric, canvas, mylar.
  • Extra set of inks, plus roll of paper and mylar.

I paid $2k for this a year ago, used it once, and left the country for a job. It worked perfectly; now the inks are dry so needs the lines drained and cleaned with a special fluid for that. I talked to Epson tech support and they are friendly and knowledgeable, and they assured that was a pretty common task for a printer thats not used frequently.

I am in prepress, graphic design, and photography.

Austin Trail Of Lights, again.

December 7th, 2007

i am amazed to see the same prop again. Are we not one of the most coolest and technologically advanced cities in America? Why do we have 20 year old cardboard cutout props with same old lights. Could we not have some competitions for companies and individuals to submit new designs – visual as well as technologically innovative? This can even start as a new section only, leaving yer old boring stuff undisturbed, until the city realizes how much potential we have here for marketing and developing beautiful arts and technologies. Surely we can  come up with competitions sponsored by the tech industry, and the city can use those old boring lights for Rick Perry’s mansion and the other sold out guy’s house… if you can put me in touch with someone in charge of the lights please do.
BO! BO! BOred,
